By the third week of August, the neighborhood changes character. The lake is still there, the boats still run, but the calendar quietly pulls residents off the water and back into the community's indoor rooms and shared civic spaces. If you have lived here more than a year, you have felt it. This post traces that shift through the specific things happening in and around Lakeway right now.
The thesis is small and worth stating up front:
August in Lakeway is not the tail end of lake season. It is the first week of the community-center season, and the calendar has been quietly rebuilt around that fact.
The Wednesday Anchor At Lohmans Crossing
Most weeks in August, the fixed point in the neighborhood is a Wednesday evening rather than a Saturday morning. The Lakeway Nights Farmers Market at Lohmans Crossing runs Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m., with local produce, artisan goods, food vendors, and live music. That timing matters. A four-to-eight window catches people on the way home from work, holds through the golden hour, and lets families eat dinner off a food truck without committing a weekend block to it.
Compare that to the standard Saturday-morning market model most Hill Country towns default to. The Saturday market competes with the lake, with youth sports, with the drive into central Austin. The Wednesday market competes with reheating leftovers. Different bar, different behavior.
If you are new to the block or new to the market, a short mental map:
- Arrive after 5 p.m. for shade on the east side of the lot
- Live music generally lands mid-window
- The food-truck line is shortest between 4 and 4:45
The Show That Turns The Activity Center Into A Gallery
The single date to hold on the August calendar is Saturday, Aug. 22. The Cool Arts Show & Sale takes place Saturday, Aug. 22 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Lakeway Activity Center, and it does more work for the neighborhood than a four-hour art show should.
Here is what I mean. The Activity Center at 105 Cross Creek is one of the two municipal buildings most residents pass a dozen times a week without ever entering. On show days, it becomes the room where you actually meet neighbors from the other side of Lohmans Crossing. The art is the reason to walk in. The rest is the point.
For anyone thinking about the room itself, the same building hosts the Big Band Bash where guests bring their own beverages and snacks to the Lakeway Activity Center at 105 Cross Creek Road. Same floor, different Saturday, same civic function.
What The Yacht Club Feels Like After The Reopen
If you had not been down to the marina since spring, the Canyon Grille is worth another look. Canyon Grille in Lakeway reopened April 14, 2026 to serve farm-to-table seasonal dishes, and by late summer the seasonal menu has cycled twice. Members get the practical benefits already baked into the club: on-site dining at Canyon Grille Rough Hollow with a 10% discount excluding alcohol, plus the ability to check out paddleboards and kayaks with membership.
The scale of the marina itself is easy to forget when you only see it from the shoreline. The marina is home to more than 294 boat and jet ski slips and features a dual-car tram, a fully stocked Ship Store, fuel dock with pump-out services, member lockers, and members-only restrooms and showers. Members also enjoy complimentary access to non-motorized watercraft, including stand-up paddleboards and kayaks. Beyond the marina, RHYC features a state-of-the-art fitness center, resort-style infinity pool, and a 2,700-square-foot event pavilion overlooking Lake Travis. The tram and the pavilion are the two pieces that most changed how residents actually use the club in the last twelve months. The tram removed the walk. The pavilion turned a weekend lunch spot into a weeknight event venue.
The Park That Is A Construction Fence Right Now
Drive past 708 Tomichi Trail this month and you will see grading equipment where a park is going to be. The official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Butler Rough Hollow Park was held at 708 Tomichi Trail, Lakeway, with light refreshments and the City forester giving away free Texas native tree saplings while supplies last. The project is part of the voter-approved 2024 Parks Bond, and will be the second of five projects completed as part of that bond package.
Two things are useful to know if you live within walking distance:
- Butler Rough Hollow Park is expected to open to the public the summer of 2027. That is a full year of construction traffic on the surrounding streets.
- The first project was completed last fall with the opening of Activity Center Park at the Lakeway Activity Center. If you want to see the design language the city is using for the bond projects, that is where to look.
For homeowners on the streets that feed Tomichi Trail, this is the kind of civic detail that shows up in a listing narrative eighteen months from now. A finished park a block away reads differently in a buyer's mind than an empty lot with a permit sign.
The Swim Center Handoff
August is also when the Swim Center becomes a school-year facility rather than a summer one. Lakeway Stars Swim School Session 1 runs August 11 through September 3, 2026, and Session 2 runs September 8 through October 1, 2026. The program is a non-competitive, off-season program designed to bridge the gap between swim lessons and joining a swim team, giving young swimmers a chance to build confidence, improve technique, and develop skills in a fun, supportive environment.
The physical facility does not change with the season, but the mix of people using it does. The Swim Center's heated, six-lane 25-yard lap pool is open year round, while the family leisure pool with zero-depth entry is open seasonally. By the second week of August, the leisure pool is winding down and the lap pool is filling with the swim-school families who will be there through October.
The Dinner-Out Shortlist For The Rest Of The Month
The dining rotation contracts in August. The truly touristy options thin out, and residents settle back into the four or five places that actually work on a Tuesday. A short field guide, from the research:

- Sundancer Grill at Sail & Ski Yacht Club. A lakefront restaurant at Sail & Ski Yacht Club on Lake Travis, offering a casual lakeside atmosphere, with lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch.
- Café Lago in Lakeway Village Square. A long-running local breakfast and lunch spot in Lakeway Village Square, in business for 28 years and counting, serving breakfast seven days a week and lunch every day except Sunday.
- SP Brazilian Steakhouse. A family-owned Brazilian steakhouse tucked into the rolling hills of Lakeway that has offered traditional churrasco dining for nearly a decade. Guests start with a self-serve salad bar filled with more than 34 options, then use red and green cards to signal trained chefs, called guachos, to bring tableside servings of 14 cuts of meat, including picanha, lamb chops and filet mignon, carved straight onto plates. The salad bar, with more than 34 options including hot side dishes, is included in the dinner ($59.95) and lunch ($39.95) prices.
Four rooms, four different reasons to walk in. The through-line is that none of them require a reservation-based commitment on a Tuesday in late August.
One More Piece Of Neighborhood Trivia Worth Holding
If you missed the announcement earlier this year, on March 12, 2026, the Texas Film Commission designated Lakeway as a Film Friendly Certified Community. That is a small, procedural change with a slow-burn effect on the streetscape. Location scouts now have a formal channel into the city, which is exactly the kind of quiet infrastructure that shows up two years later in the form of a production trailer parked at the end of your cul-de-sac.
